Paper Towel Roses Activity
5 minutes prep | Long play
Roses are red, violets are blue. Paper roses last, making them perfect gifts too!
What You Need
1 roll of kitchen paper towels
1 set of colourful marker pens
Water
Tray
Hanging platform
1 pair of scissors
6 pipe cleaners (or more depending on how many roses you're making)
How to Do It
Doodle on some paper towels with marker pens. 1 paper towel makes 1 rose.
Sprinkle some water on them lightly. Make the paper towels completely damp and be careful not to tear them.
Hang the paper towels out to dry completely. They should be a wonderful swirl of colours.
Once dried, fold the paper towels into half and cut it with a scissors.
Fold the half piece into half again and roll it around the pipe cleaner.
Roll the second piece around the first rolled piece.
Twist the pipe cleaner around the end to secure the paper towel rose.
Science Behind It
Marker pens are water-based, so adding water spreads the colour fully around the paper towel (fastest way to get colour across).
Hints and Tips
Just a little bit of water is needed to make a paper towel completely damp. Be careful not to tear them!
You can fluff the roses a little at the end so they appear more full.
